Online Xmas Crop & Challenge

Ok, we have been quiet on the blog, but we are still here - really.  I hope you are checking out what is happening on the forum - http://www.scrapbookingbydesign.co.nz/forum/index.php

From my point of view, the last couple of months have been chaos.  I got through my psychology exams (end of October) and then completed a 1/2 marathon (end of November).... it meant the scrapbooking has taken  a bit of a back seat.... but I am ramped up and ready to go - even tho it is Xmas.  After all that is just expected to be a busy time of the year. 

dHow is your shopping going>?  I got lucky again this year, Phil (hubby) went to Thailand end of November and did loads of shopping.  I love it. Makes my life easier.

So, on the forum I have posted a date for an online crop.  Sunday 14 Dec ember from 7 pm.  This will be held via the chat room.  Details to be posted on what you need to prepare over the next 48 hours.  If you can't participate on the night, I will post a challenge with a deadline of 24 hours post the crop.

Have a go Challenge

Ok girls,    here's a challenge to wake you up lol.

 

I wont you to do a layout using the cuttlebug,eg using the dies and embossing folders.

If you don't own a cuttle bug use a friends or go to your local scrap shop,most of them have one you can use or try out.

 

I wont to see what ideas you come up with.I will try to do 1 challenge a month using something specific,mostly it will be product related.You have till August the 30th at midnight to get your creation into the gallery,This will be a random draw,please title it cuttlebug challenge.

 

If you have been thinking about getting one of these awesome little machines,nows a good time as they have a special offer on,you get a free alphabet, and a new lot of embossing folders have just arrived,check out the online shop or call into 62 lunn ave Mt wellington.

What a lovely time I had looking back over the high lights of my 2008 year. I could not help thinking as I flicked through photos and my blog how quickly we forget the good times,  how fast our children grow and how very quickly life changes!

I received the following 'words of wisdom' from a good friend last week, and although they are not really related to scrap-booking I just wanted to share them with you all.

TWO FRIENDS WERE WALKING
THROUGH THE DESERT.

DURING SOME POINT OF THE JOURNEY, THEY HAD AN
ARGUMENT; AND ONE FRIEND SLAPPED THE
OTHER ONE IN THE FACE.

THE ONE WHO GOT SLAPPED
WAS HURT, BUT WITHOUT
SAYING ANYTHING,
WROTE IN THE SAND:

TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN
THE FACE.

THEY KEPT ON WALKING,
UNTIL THEY FOUND AN OASIS,
WHERE THEY DECIDED
TO TAKE A BATH
THE ONE WHO HAD BEEN
SLAPPED GOT STUCK IN THE
MIRE ! AND STARTED DROWNING, BUT THE FRIEND
SAVED HIM.

AFTER HE RECOVERED FROM
THE NEAR DROWNING, HE WROTE ON A
STONE:

'TODAY MY BEST FRIEND
SAVED MY LIFE '

THE FRIEND WHO HAD SLAPPED
AND SAVED HIS BEST FRIEND
ASKED HIM, 'AFTER I HURT YOU,
YOU WROTE IN THE SAND AND NOW, YOU WRITE ON
A STONE, WHY?'

THE FRIEND REPLIED
'WHEN SOMEONE HURTS US
WE SHOULD WRITE IT DOWN
IN SAND, WHERE WINDS OF
FORGIVENESS CAN ERASE IT AWAY.

BUT, WHEN SOMEONE DOES
SOMETHING GOOD FOR US,
WE MUST ENGRAVE IT IN STONE
WHERE NO WIND CAN EVER ERASE
IT.'

LEARN TO WRITE
YOUR HURTS IN
THE SAND AND TO
CARVE YOUR
BENEFITS IN STONE.

DO NOT VALUE THE THINGS
YOU HAVE IN YOUR LIFE, BUT
VALUE
WHO YOU HAVE IN YOUR LIFE !

Now although we do not tend to carve in stone, we scrappers do record our benefits on paper and show others we value them by spending countless hours recording their faces and actions on our many pages.
 Here is my 2008 High-lights page. Because I had so many high lights,and so much to write, I choose to use several little photos , this was a new experience for me! My favorite of all my scrapping supply's are my stamps so I have used a little bird stamp, stamped onto patterned paper (my second favorite scrapping supply).

A Challenge for you

Have you taken the time to think about how you are going to end your 2008 scrapbook album?

I thought it might be nice to end my album with a page show casing the highlight/s of my year. I have pages full of my children's high lights, but not so many of mine have been scrapped!

What was my high light??  Now Meek suggested looking back though our blogs to jog our memories, and she was so right, I found my highs and lows were pretty well recorded there.

I would like to challenge you all to create your own 2008 Highlight page. You may like to use many photos, or no photos at all and a single, or double page spread.  Try and include your favorite embellishment or technique of 2008 on your page.

Post your completed Layout in the Scrapbook Studio Gallery,  under Fun Challenges by mid-night December 30th. The winner will be announced the next day. Up for grabs is the Cottage path set of Alcohol Inks and Alcohol blending solution by Tim Holtz, that will be sure to give your creative side a kick start for the new year!

Feel free to pop your Layouts on your blogs as well.

Quick Fire Challenge - 01-08-08

We have re-started the Quick Fire Challenges again, as we took a little break during the "so think you can Scrap Challenge".  This challenge is set fortnightly where you are given certain elements to work with and you have 48hrs to upload your layouts in the Gallery.  The winner of the challenge gets to set the following challenge together with the Design Team.

This week's challenge was to create a layout using (1) patterned paper [at least two], (2) to use circles somewhere on your layout and (3) to use brackets.  Here is my interpretation of this challenge,

I have used the Basic Grey Recess Patterned Paper, which I have also included on the Maya Road Chipboard Brackets & Collections Chipboard Circles, I then stamped the covered chipboard with my delicious new Hero Arts stamp, and have used some transperancies underneather the circles.

 

A Big congrats to Raewyn (AKA Whinney) who won this week's challenge and who will be setting the next challenge on Friday 15th August.  So keep watching the forum for sneak peaks of the next challenge
